UK-Based Nigerian Sentenced to 17 Years for Rape

Gift Oladel, a 24-year-old UK-based Nigerian, was sentenced to 17 years in prison for raping a 19-year-old woman in Wrexham, United Kingdom. The incident occurred in September 2025 when Oladel befriended the victim outside a takeaway in Wrexham city center and offered to walk her home.

Once they reached an isolated area, he grabbed her, covered her mouth, and assaulted her in nearby woods. The prosecutor, James Coutt, described the attack as terrifying for the victim, who feared for her life.

Oladel threatened to harm her if she reported the incident and attempted to hide his mobile phone when arrested the following day. He had a previous conviction for a sexual offense in Manchester in November 2024 and was on bail at the time of this attack.

Judge Simon Mill labeled Oladel's actions as depraved and a danger to young women, highlighting the severe emotional trauma suffered by the victim.
