UK High Commission Praises Osun Voters After Election

The British High Commission commended the people of Osun State for their peaceful participation in the August 15 governorship election and congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election. In a statement issued on Monday, the High Commission noted that it deployed accredited observers to monitor the election, engaging with various stakeholders beforehand.

Observations aligned with findings from credible independent observer groups, indicating positive signs of a democratic process, such as timely opening of polls and effective electoral procedures by INEC officials. However, the commission also acknowledged isolated incidents that caused tension, issues of voter interference like vote-buying, and challenges faced by persons with disabilities and elderly voters regarding access to polling facilities.

It urged relevant institutions to address these challenges and learn from the election to enhance future electoral processes. Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, the commission expressed hope that the Osun election would contribute to improvements in Nigeria's electoral system and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nigeria's electoral institutions.
