UK Home Office Revokes Visa-Free Access for Six Nations

The UK Home Office announced the revocation of visa-free entry for six countries in response to a significant increase in asylum claims. Nicaragua and Saint Lucia were the latest additions to the restricted list, joining Jordan, Colombia, Trinidad and Tobago, and Botswana.
The Home Office reported that tougher controls on the first four countries led to a 93% reduction in asylum claims. Since July 2024, these measures have reportedly prevented over 6,000 asylum applications and saved more than £370 million in related costs.
Nearly 90% of Nicaraguan visitors claimed asylum upon arrival in the UK in 2025, prompting their inclusion. Saint Lucia's high asylum claim rates were linked to its Citizenship by Investment programme.
The Home Office also introduced a "brake" on student visas from Afghanistan, Cameroon, Myanmar, and Sudan, as applications from these countries surged by over 470% from 2021 to 2025.
