Nigerians Can Apply for 2027/2028 UK Commonwealth Scholarships

The Federal Ministry of Education announced that Nigerian graduates can apply for the 2027/2028 Commonwealth Scholarships and Fellowship Plan to pursue postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom. Applications must be completed online through the Electronic Application System by the deadline of October 20, 2026.

The announcement was made by the Lagos State Scholarship Board and issued by the Department of Scholarship Awards, signed by Dr Folake Olatunji-David, Director Overseeing the Office of PSE, on behalf of the Minister of Education. The scholarship allows candidates to undertake either a one-year taught Master’s programme or doctoral studies up to three years.

Applicants for Master’s programmes must have a first degree with at least a Second Class Upper Division, while doctoral candidates need a relevant Master’s degree and a minimum of Second Class Lower Division in their first degree. Additional requirements include admission to at least two UK institutions and a supporting statement from a prospective supervisor for doctoral candidates.

Evidence of participation in the National Youth Service Corps is also required. Applications will be assessed based on academic merit, development impact, and the quality of the study plan.
