UK Will Not Join Military Strikes Against Iran, Says Starmer

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that the United Kingdom will not engage in offensive military strikes against Iran, asserting that the government does not support regime change. Speaking in the House of Commons, Starmer emphasized the importance of learning from past conflicts, particularly the Iraq War, and stressed that military action must be legally justified and part of a clear strategic plan.

He noted that the UK’s priority remains a diplomatic settlement to address Iran's nuclear ambitions and destabilizing activities in the region. Starmer acknowledged concerns regarding the safety of approximately 300,000 British citizens currently in the Gulf region.

He confirmed that British aircraft would be used for defensive purposes only, and the Royal Air Force would intercept threats to protect British interests. Additionally, he clarified that the UK would not allow the United States to use its Diego Garcia airbase for offensive strikes.

Starmer's comments come amid rising tensions and the need for a measured response to protect British personnel.
