Starmer Responds to Iranian Drone Strike on UK Base

Keir Starmer, the leader of the UK Labour Party, reacted to an Iranian drone strike that hit the UK Royal Air Force base at RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus late Sunday. He stressed that the United Kingdom will not engage in military action against Iran, citing lessons learned from the Iraq War.

The drone strike occurred shortly after midnight and was confirmed by the British Foreign Secretary, who noted that the government is assessing the damage and exploring options to assist British nationals in the region. The base, located near Limassol, serves as a strategic hub for UK operations in the Middle East.

Despite the attack, UK officials, including Minister Hamish Falcon, reiterated that Britain will not participate in the first wave of military strikes alongside the United States and Israel. Starmer also highlighted the impact of the Iranian airspace closure on approximately 300,000 British citizens in Gulf countries, urging them to register with UK authorities and follow local safety guidance.
