Ajayi Finishes 4th in 100m Final at World Championships

Kanyinsola Ajayi finished fourth in the men’s 100m final at the World Athletics Ultimate Championships held in Budapest, Hungary, with a time of 9.93 seconds. He was behind winner Kenneth Bednarek, who clocked 9.86 seconds.

Ajayi had previously qualified for the final by finishing third in his semi-final with a time of 10.00 seconds, trailing Bednarek and Ronnie Baker, who also ran 10.00 seconds. This performance capped off an impressive season for the 21-year-old sprinter from Auburn University, who broke the 20-year-old Nigerian 100m record held by Olusoji Fasuba in May, running 9.84 seconds at the NCAA East Regionals.

Ajayi also won back-to-back Diamond League titles at the Prefontaine Classic and in London, defeating reigning world champion Oblique Seville twice. Additionally, he earned a bronze medal in the 100m at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with a time of 9.90 seconds, becoming the first Nigerian male sprinter in 20 years to win a Commonwealth Games medal in this event, and secured another bronze in the men’s 4x100m relay.
