Umahi Seeks Autopsy for Aide Mary Habila's Death

David Umahi, the Minister of Works, publicly addressed the death of his aide, Mary Habila, during a press briefing in Abuja. He described Habila as 'like a daughter' and emphasized her close relationship with the ministry over three years.

Umahi dismissed allegations linking her death to political motives, stating there were no indications of foul play. Habila had been battling health challenges and was reportedly receiving treatment in a Turkish hospital, with medical expenses amounting to N2.2 million.

On the day of her death, she had a phone conversation with her boyfriend, during which she complained of a nosebleed. After she ceased communication, her boyfriend discovered she had died.

Umahi expressed concern over the exploitation of her death for political purposes and requested an autopsy to clarify the cause of death, which the family opposed due to cultural beliefs. He urged the Inspector General of Police to transfer the investigation to Abuja for a thorough inquiry.
