WiM-Africa to Host Gender Index Dialogue at UN Forum

WiM-Africa is set to convene an official side event during the 12th session of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa's Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD-12). The event aims to advance discussions on the proposed Africa Responsible Minerals Gender Index (ARMGI).

The session will focus on translating mining governance commitments into tangible outcomes, particularly for women in host communities affected by extractive activities. The dialogue is expected to bring together key stakeholders across the continent, including representatives from African institutions, the private sector, development partners, environmental actors, and civil society groups.

Comfort Asokoro Ogaji, Executive Director of WiM-Africa, emphasized the need to redefine Africa's mineral wealth, advocating for assessments that consider the impact on women and communities. The ARMGI aims to develop collaborative tools to track progress and improve alignment with global frameworks, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Agenda 2063.

The event aligns with broader themes of ARFSD-12, focusing on transforming actions towards the 2030 Agenda.
