WiM-Africa Launches Gender Index at ARFSD-12 Event

Women Mine Africa (WiM-Africa), led by Stella Oduem, will convene an official side event during the 12th session of the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD-12) organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). The event aims to advance dialogue around the Africa Responsible Minerals Gender Index (ARMGI), focusing on gender-responsive mining governance measures.

The session will gather representatives from African institutions, private sector leaders, development partners, environmental actors, and civil society to explore pathways for translating mining governance commitments into tangible outcomes. The ARMGI framework seeks to strengthen gender-responsive mining governance and ensure equitable benefit-sharing for women in host communities across Africa.

Dr. Comfort Asokoro Ogaji, Executive Director of WiM-Africa, emphasized the importance of measuring the impact of mining on women's communities.

The session will provide a platform for stakeholder engagement and collaboration to support the ARMGI initiative in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Agenda 2063.
