UN Praises Nigeria's Role in Global Peacekeeping Efforts

The United Nations commended Nigeria for its longstanding contributions to global peacekeeping during an event held in Abuja to commemorate International Day of UN Peacekeepers. The event, themed and organized in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), highlighted Nigeria's commitment to promoting peace both domestically and internationally.

Since 1966, over 200,000 Nigerian troops have participated in peacekeeping missions, with 335 uniformed personnel currently serving in UN missions, including 138 police officers. Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu paid tribute to the fallen peacekeepers, while Chief of Army Staff Lt.

Gen. Ibikunle Ajos, reaffirmed the Nigerian Army's commitment to international peacekeeping.

The event was attended by defense officials, diplomats, and UN partners, featuring remarks from ACP Janet Salami, a female commander who previously served in UN peacekeeping missions.
