UNFPA Donates Health Kits to Support Vulnerable in Benue

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) donated reproductive health kits to Benue State, Nigeria, during an official handover ceremony at the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BENSEMA) headquarters in Makurdi. UNFPA's resident representative in Nigeria, Muriel Mafico, stated that the donation would benefit approximately 100,000 vulnerable individuals, especially internally displaced persons (IDPs), women, and girls affected by the humanitarian crisis in Benue.

Mafico emphasized that while the kits are life-saving, proper training for health workers is essential for effective utilization. UNFPA plans to collaborate with Benue State College of Nursing Sciences to build the capacity of nurses, midwives, and doctors, and to establish youth-friendly centers in IDP camps.

The Benue State Government, represented by Deputy Governor Sam Od, expressed gratitude for the timely support, which aims to improve maternal and newborn healthcare services and address gender-based violence. The state government assured that the supplies would be transparently distributed to the intended beneficiaries.
