ADC Criticizes Tinubu and Shettima's Extended Absence

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) condemned the absence of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima from Nigeria, labeling it a violation of the Constitution. In a statement by National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC noted that Tinubu has been out of the country since August 30, exceeding the 21-day limit without transmitting power to the Vice President as required by Section 145 of the Constitution.

The ADC demanded clarification on whether the necessary declaration was made and criticized the National Assembly for ignoring this constitutional requirement. The party dismissed the Presidency's claims of a "working vacation" and the representation of Tinubu by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, as inadequate.

They emphasized that Akume cannot exercise presidential powers and that governance cannot occur through proxies. The ADC expressed concern over the simultaneous absence of both leaders amid rising insecurity and economic challenges in Nigeria.
