UNICEF, EU Launch Initiative to Boost Adamawa Health System

UNICEF and the European Union launched a leadership capacity initiative in Adamawa State aimed at strengthening the health system, particularly in reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health (RMNCAH) services. The initiative commenced with a three-day workshop in Yola and is part of the Enhancing Leadership Governance and Management Capacity (ELGMC) project, funded by the European Union.

Dr. Emmanuel Emedo, UNICEF's health system specialist, emphasized that effective leadership is crucial for improving health system performance.

The program is designed to build competencies among health leaders to enhance resource management and improve health outcomes. The initiative follows a baseline assessment identifying significant gaps in leadership and governance affecting RMNCAH and gender-based violence (GBV) programs.

Dr. Gafar Alawod from DGI Consult noted that the program is not merely a training intervention but aims to develop capable leaders.

The workshop included training on strategic planning, financial management, and data-driven decision-making, with ongoing mentorship and support for participants.
