UNICEF Upgrades DISO Primary Healthcare Centre in Kano

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has officially handed over the renovated and expanded DISO Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) located in Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State to the State Primary Healthcare Management Board (SPHCMB). This initiative is part of efforts to enhance healthcare infrastructure and improve access to quality primary healthcare services in the region.

During the handover ceremony, Shafeeq Ur-Rehman, UNICEF Chief of Field Office in Kano, urged community leaders and residents to take ownership of the facility and ensure its maintenance. He emphasized the need for adequate staffing with skilled health workers and consistent supply of essential medicines and vaccines.

The DISO PHC, renovated under a Global Fund-supported program, now features an expanded delivery room, laboratory, consultation room, and wards designed for persons with disabilities. Adamu Fate, representing the SPHCMB, commended UNICEF for the intervention, while community leader Ahmed Bello assured that the community would protect and maintain the facility.
