UniJos ASUU Declares Indefinite Strike Over Salaries

The University of Jos chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced an indefinite strike due to the non-payment and mutilation of salaries for its members. The strike, led by chapter chairperson Jurb Molwu, is set to take effect on Wednesday and will persist until the owed salaries are fully paid.

This decision follows a resolution from the chapter's congress and is in line with the national executive council's directives. The union has requested that its members abstain from lectures and statutory meetings until the salary issues are resolved.

Notably, salaries for March 2026 have not been paid, despite previous notices and patience from the union. The ASUU national chairperson, Chri Piwuna, has expressed concerns regarding the federal government's failure to implement components of the union's agreements, including the payment of earned academic allowances.

The strike follows a similar action by the University of Lagos chapter due to unexplained salary cuts and non-payment of allowances.
