UNILAG Lecturers Begin Indefinite Strike Over Salaries

Lecturers at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) have initiated an indefinite strike over salary disputes, which they have termed "amputated pay." The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) chapter at UNILAG announced this industrial action following an emergency meeting on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. The union's chairperson, Idou Kehind, and secretary, Adesina Arikaw, confirmed that academic activities would be suspended until the salary issues are fully resolved.

The lecturers expressed dissatisfaction with their payments for January and February 2026, which they claim fall short of expectations. The ASUU chapter has urged the university management to engage with the union urgently to avoid further escalation of the situation, signaling potential prolonged disruptions to academic activities at one of Nigeria's premier universities.
