UNILAG Criticized for Singer Fola's Project Defense Outfit

The University of Lagos has received backlash on social media following the appearance of Nigerian singer Folarin Odunlami, known as Fola, at his final-year project defense in the Department of Economics Education, Faculty of Education. Fola arrived wearing baggy trousers, a shirt, a scarf, and accessories in a Cadillac Escalade.

This sparked debate on X, with many users criticizing the university for allegedly relaxing its dress code standards for the singer. Some users claimed that ordinary students had faced restrictions for similar dress code violations, while Fola was allowed to proceed without objection.

Although no official confirmation from the university has been provided regarding any dress code violations or special treatment, several users expressed their disappointment. Comments included assertions that wealth should not exempt students from adhering to decorum and that Fola could have chosen more appropriate attire for such an important academic occasion.
