UNILORIN Graduate Overcomes Adversity for First-Class Degree

Abdulazeez Aminat Opeyemi graduated with a First-Class Honours degree in Biology from the University of Ilorin, overcoming significant challenges throughout her academic journey. Her struggles began in primary school due to financial difficulties, which forced her to stay home for a year.

Despite these hardships, she excelled in secondary school. Aminat attempted the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination three times, with her first two attempts resulting in no admission.

She chose the University of Ilorin for its affordability and finally secured admission on her third attempt to study Biology Education. University life presented new financial challenges, but she received support from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, which enabled her to complete her studies.

Ultimately, she graduated as the second-best student in her department, emphasizing that a difficult beginning does not equate to an impossible ending and that perseverance is key to success.
