UNILORIN and NNPCL Collaborate on Research Initiatives

The University of Ilorin and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) have partnered to establish a joint strategic committee aimed at strengthening collaboration between the two institutions. This partnership was announced in a statement issued on Saturday by Kunle Akogun, the Director of Corporate Affairs at the University of Ilorin, following a meeting held at the NNPC Towers in Abuja on Wednesday.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, SAN, led the university's delegation, while the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NNPCL, Bashir Bayo Ojulari, led the company's team.

The focus of the collaboration includes the establishment of a center of excellence at the University of Ilorin dedicated to practical engineering technology-driven research, which is expected to be the first of its kind in West Africa. Additionally, the proposal includes the establishment of an NNPCL professorial chair at the university to promote industry-driven research and strengthen academic expertise in the energy sector.

The joint committee will refine the details of the partnership and is expected to report back within four weeks.
