United Nigeria Airlines Unveils Achebe Sculpture in Ogidi

United Nigeria Airlines has fully funded a bronze sculpture of the esteemed novelist Chinua Achebe, located in Ogidi, Anambra State’s Idemili North Local Government Area, which is Achebe's hometown. The sculpture, unveiled in July, stands at the Ugwunwasike Roundabout and represents the airline's ongoing efforts to honor Achebe's legacy.

The Executive Chairman of United Nigeria Airlines, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, who hails from Ogidi, views Achebe as a kinsman and feels a personal responsibility to protect and promote his legacy. This initiative is part of a broader commitment by the airline, which began in June 2026 when it unveiled two Boeing 737-800NG aircraft at Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos.

One aircraft is named after His Royal Majesty Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha, while the other bears Chinua Achebe's name, further solidifying the airline's tribute to the literary giant.
