Okonkwo Receives Gold Award from Aviation Institute

Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, the Executive Chairman of United Nigeria Airlines (UNA), was honored with a gold medal award by the Institute of Nigerian Aeronautical Engineers (INAE) for his contributions to the airline's safety culture, capacity building, and rapid growth amidst economic challenges. The award was presented by Dr. Ebitei Charles, the national president of INAE, during the International Conference Fellowship Conferment held in Lagos on Wednesday.

This award is designated for individuals whose work has significantly advanced aeronautical engineering. Okonkwo was recognized for leading UNA's expansion over the past five years, particularly during the global economic downturn caused by COVID-19.

Although Okonkwo could not attend the ceremony, he was represented by Alex Iheuwa, the airline’s Director of Continuing Airworthiness, and Capt. Joan Obasi-Ibraheem, the Chief Pilot. The recognition reflects a commitment to enhancing safety standards and building indigenous engineering capacity, aligning with UNA's priorities.
