UNIUYO Graduate Arrested for Illegal Arms Fabrication

On March 15, 2026, Koabasi Marsodi, a graduate of Animal Science from the University of Uyo, was arrested by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command for allegedly operating an illegal arms fabrication facility in Uyo. The arrest occurred during a raid as part of the command's ongoing operation, dubbed "Zero Black Spot Strategy," aimed at dismantling criminal hideouts and illegal arms production centers across the state.

The police acted on credible intelligence that led them to a location on Idem Street off Itu Road, where they discovered the facility was not producing narcotics as initially suspected but was functioning as a clandestine arms manufacturing workshop. Preliminary investigations revealed that Marsodi confessed to producing modified firearms, including cut-down long guns and concealed weapons.

Items recovered from the facility included eight refill cartridges, six empty cartridges, gunpowder, and various tools used for weapon fabrication. The police have warned that criminal elements in the state will face the full weight of the law as investigations continue.
