UniUyo VC Prof Ekong Commits to Five-Year Improvement Plan

On September 10, 2023, Prof Christopher Ekong, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo, declared a new era for the institution, emphasizing that his administration would not tolerate "cutting corners" in infrastructure and academic administration. During a town hall meeting with stakeholders from the Town Campus, Medical School, and Main Campus, he expressed his commitment to addressing the university's challenges and improving its operations within a five-year tenure.

Ekong highlighted the importance of providing necessary amenities while cautioning against using accreditation exercises for agitation. He pledged to tackle accommodation issues and expressed concerns about the quality of projects executed by contractors under the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), criticizing them for delivering substandard facilities.

Additionally, he addressed staffing shortages, promising to present gaps to authorities and fill essential positions without compromising merit in recruitment.
