University of Maiduguri Matriculates 6,553 Students

On Tuesday, the University of Maiduguri, led by Vice Chancellor Professor Moham Laminu Mele, officially matriculated 6,553 students for the 2025/2026 academic session. In his welcome address, Professor Mele highlighted the university's resilience despite challenges such as insurgency, limited funding, and infrastructural issues.

The new students were admitted into various degree programs across multiple faculties, including 531 in the Faculty of Medical Sciences, 234 in the Faculty of Agriculture, and 969 in the Faculty of Education, among others. Professor Mele emphasized three core values: discipline, hard work, and moral integrity, which he stated are foundational for student success.

He warned against negative behaviors such as examination malpractice, cultism, and drug abuse, stating that the university would not tolerate actions that threaten campus peace. Students found guilty of misconduct could face serious disciplinary actions, including expulsion.

The Vice Chancellor encouraged students to commit to their studies and utilize the resources available to achieve their academic goals.
