UNIZIK Nursing School to Review Tuition Fee Hike After Protests

The nursing school at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) in Nnewi, Anambra State, has pledged to review a significant tuition fee increase after student protests. The tuition rose from ₦90,000 to ₦580,000, which students described as an astronomical hike.

Ezejiofor, the chairman of the board and chief medical advisory committee, announced the fee hike in an internal memo issued on January 23. Prof. Joseph Ugboaja, the chief medical director at NAUTH, assured that management would engage with relevant stakeholders to resolve the issue and consider a new tuition proposal from the student union leadership.

He emphasized that the school fee, despite the increase, remains among the lowest in the Southeast. Chinyer Onwuka, the public relations officer, noted that the student union distanced itself from the protest, stating they were unaware of its organization.
