UNN Graduate Overcomes 350 Rejections for Job at Dangote

Alexander Hamilton, a mechanical engineering graduate from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, celebrated securing a role at Dangote Petroleum and Petrochemicals on August 25, 2023, after enduring more than 350 job rejections in the seven months following his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge. Hamilton, who earned his Bachelor of Engineering degree in 2022, described this period as one of the most challenging times in his life, leading him to question his abilities.

Despite the numerous rejections, he also turned down some job offers, believing he deserved better. He reflected on the thin line between recognizing one's worth and the reluctance to accept initial opportunities.

Throughout these months, he continued to apply for jobs, learn, and maintain faith. Upon receiving the job offer from Dangote Petroleum and Petrochemicals, Hamilton stated that this opportunity marks the beginning of a responsibility rather than a reward, committing to earn his place at the company daily.
