PDP Initiates Reconciliation Efforts Under Turaki's Leadership

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has commenced new reconciliation efforts aimed at uniting aggrieved factions within the party, led by Tanimu Turaki, who heads the national working committee. This initiative, disclosed on Wednesday in Abuja, follows an advisory from the Court of Appeal in Ibadan urging the party to explore reconciliation.

Turaki noted that earlier efforts have yielded some results, and he emphasized the importance of unity within the party as they prepare for upcoming elections. The national working committee has taken steps to demonstrate good faith, including postponing meetings to reduce tensions.

However, there remains a lack of reciprocation from opposing factions, which have issued derogatory statements. Turaki identified two elements hindering peace: legal disputes and the willingness to withdraw court cases once agreeable terms are reached.

The PDP has faced internal crises leading to a split into two factions, with the last convention held on November 16 in Ibadan. The court upheld a ruling that nullified the Ibadan convention, directing the party to seek an amicable settlement.
