Rivers Senator Banigo Joins APC from PDP Amid Divisions

On Tuesday, Senator Ipialibo Banigo officially announced her defection from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) during a session in the Senate, which was presided over by Godswill Akpabio. In her letter of defection, Banigo expressed her intention to align with the political goals of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and to support President Bola Tinubu's administration.

She cited extensive consultations with her constituents and political associates, as well as ongoing leadership disputes and internal divisions within the PDP, as factors influencing her decision. Banigo acknowledged President Tinubu's role in fostering political stability and enhancing economic reforms in Nigeria.

She also expressed her commitment to supporting the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, in her initiatives. This defection is part of a broader trend of political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, as other politicians, including Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, have also shifted allegiance to the APC.
