Ondo State Government Launches Urban Renewal Initiative

The Ondo State Government, under the leadership of Attorney General Dr. Olukayode Ajulo, is launching an urban renewal initiative aimed at reclaiming abandoned and undeveloped properties throughout the state.

This initiative compels property owners to either develop their properties or surrender them for redevelopment by investors. During a lecture titled "Rule of Law and Urbanism," held in Akure, Dr.

Ajulo emphasized the need for compliance with urban development regulations, particularly in areas that have remained undeveloped for decades. He noted that many properties, especially along major roads in Akure, have been neglected for over 20 years, posing security threats and environmental nuisances.

The government has already begun compiling records of affected properties and has issued formal notices to owners. The Nigerian Land Use Act empowers the state governor to acquire land in the public interest, ensuring due process and appropriate compensation.

The initiative also includes plans for digitizing land administration in Ondo State to enhance monitoring and compliance with urban development regulations.
