U.S. Funding Cut Impacts 250,000 Lives in Yobe State

The Yobe State government disclosed that a cut in U.S. funding has impacted 250,000 people in the state, following an executive order by President Donald Trump in 2025. Dr.

Muhammad Goje, from the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA), revealed this during a breakfast show. The U.S. has been the largest donor for humanitarian operations in Northeast Nigeria, which includes Yobe, Borno, and Adamawa states.

The suspension of funds directly affects food assistance, healthcare, and support services for displaced families. Among those affected are 13,000 school children and survivors of gender-based violence.

The humanitarian response plan for Nigeria requires $926.5 million to assist 4.4 million people, with the U.S. contributing approximately $316 million. Due to the funding cut, the World Food Programme will cease distributing 650 metric tons of food monthly by February 2026, impacting 65,000 households.

Additionally, 2,508 humanitarian workers have lost their jobs, affecting thousands of dependents.
