US Imposes New Sanctions on Hezbollah Over Iran Links

On Thursday, the US Treasury Department announced fresh sanctions against Hezbollah, citing its provision of services to the Iranian regime under the direction of the IRGC-QF. A US official indicated that the sanctions aim to emphasize Hezbollah's operations on behalf of the Iranian government, especially the Quds Force.

Hezbollah has been designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization since 1997 and as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist in 2001. The sanctions are intended to disrupt Hezbollah's financial networks by freezing assets, restricting banking transactions, and prohibiting support.

The latest measures also target ten individuals accused of assisting in cash transfers for Hezbollah, including a Turkish businessman managing a network of couriers for fund transfers between various countries and Hezbollah's base in Lebanon. The businessman allegedly used exchange houses in Turkey as fronts for these transactions.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced a forthcoming news conference to discuss what he termed the “toughest sanctions in history” against Iran.
