Tulsi Gabbard Resigns as Director of National Intelligence

Tulsi Gabbard announced her resignation as Director of National Intelligence, effective June 30, 2026, due to her husband Abraham Gabbard's diagnosis of a rare form of bone cancer. In her resignation letter shared on Friday, Gabbard informed President Donald Trump during a meeting in the Oval Office.

She expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve in her role over the past year and a half, describing her decision as difficult due to her husband's health condition requiring her full attention. Gabbard praised her husband for his support throughout their 11-year marriage, including during military deployments and political campaigns.

Despite her resignation, she remains committed to ensuring a smooth transition and maintaining national security responsibilities. During her tenure, Gabbard oversaw significant restructuring within the U.S.

Intelligence Community, aimed at reducing operational costs and reorganizing several programs, including the declassification of numerous government records related to historical events.
