U.S. Clarifies Visa Ban Impact on Nigerian Students

The U.S. Mission in Nigeria issued a statement addressing concerns regarding the impact of recent visa restrictions on Nigerian students and exchange visitors.

It clarified that those who already hold valid F-1 and J-1 visas will not be affected by the new policies announced by the U.S. government. The statement emphasized that these visa holders remain eligible to travel and study in the United States, despite the partial visa suspension.

The mission reassured that the presidential proclamation 10998, effective January 1, 2026, does not invalidate existing F-1 and J-1 visas. Students and exchange participants can continue their academic and research activities without disruption.
