US Military Support Clarified as Non-Threat to Nigeria

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) of Nigeria clarified that the military support from the United States is not a threat to Nigeria's sovereignty. During a press conference in Abuja, Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, explained that the assistance provided is primarily advisory and involves intelligence sharing and capacity building, without any financial cost to the Nigerian government.

He emphasized that the arrangement is designed to strengthen Nigeria's efforts in tackling insecurity. General Onoja addressed questions regarding the presence of US troops in Nigeria, stating that their role is limited and contributes to dismantling terrorist networks within the country.

He cautioned against misinterpretations of the partnership, describing it as routine military engagement aimed at enhancing operational effectiveness against security challenges. The collaboration is intended to ensure a peaceful environment for Nigerian citizens, free from terrorist threats.

Earlier, the DHQ had issued a statement focusing on training Nigerian troops to strengthen counter-terrorism operations nationwide.
