US-Nigeria Military Partnership Strengthens Against Terrorism

AFRICOM, represented by Colonel Rebecca Heys, stated that the US-Nigeria military partnership is founded on mutual interests and respect for Nigerian sovereignty. The partnership operates strictly within a bilateral framework, with American forces invited to assist in Nigeria's fight against terrorism.

Major General Samiala Uba reinforced that Nigeria determines the scope and duration of the collaboration, which includes specialized training and operational support. The partnership has reportedly led to significant benefits for the Nigerian military, including skill development and operational successes.

President Donald Trump, in November 2025, designated Nigeria as a country of particular concern due to threats faced by Christians from radical Islamist groups. Following this, AFRICOM conducted a missile strike against ISIS militants in Sokoto State, coordinating with Nigerian authorities, and dispatched around 200 troops to train Nigerian forces.

This partnership has yielded significant results, including the elimination of Abu Bilal al Minuki, described as ISIS's second-in-command globally.
