Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate and Anambra State governor, described the U.S. advisory for the evacuation of non-essential staff from its embassy in Abuja as a "bad omen" for Nigeria, highlighting the country's increasing insecurity. The U.S.

Department of State issued a travel advisory on April 8, classifying Nigeria at Level 3 (reconsider travel) and Level 4 (do not travel) for specific states, including Plateau, Jigawa, Kwara, Niger, and Taraba, totaling 23 states. Obi expressed concern that this evacuation signals a decline in confidence in Nigeria's security architecture, especially as the country ranks fourth on the global terror index.

He criticized political leaders for prioritizing politics over citizen safety, stressing that without security, there can be no governance or future. The U.S.

Embassy in Abuja announced the suspension of visa appointments, although operations at the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos remain unaffected.
