US Reaffirms Commitment to Combat Terrorism in Nigeria

The United States has reiterated its commitment to working with Nigeria to combat terrorism and violent extremism, ensuring that all Nigerians can live and worship freely without fear. This commitment was expressed by US Senior Adviser for Arab and African Affairs, Massad Boulos, who shared an image of Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Allison Hooker, meeting with Nigerian officials.

The engagement aims to protect vulnerable Christian communities in Nigeria. The US noted Nigeria's efforts in prosecuting hundreds of Boko Haram and Islamic State-West Africa suspects and expanding its judicial capacity.

However, the US emphasized the need for sustained action, particularly in addressing the humanitarian consequences of terrorism. This development follows the visit of Nigeria's National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, to Washington for the second session of the United States-Nigeria Joint Working Group (JWG), which focused on protecting Christian communities, strengthening judicial institutions, and enhancing military cooperation.
