JAMB Admits 4,216 Candidates with Disabilities for 2026

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has admitted 4,216 candidates with disabilities for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). This initiative was disclosed by Professor Peter Okebukola during a national stakeholder engagement on inclusivity in higher education held at the National Universities Commission (NUC) headquarters in Abuja.

JAMB's equal opportunity group aims to provide candidates with disabilities equal access to tertiary education. Okebukola noted that over the past decade, an average of 53% of participating candidates with disabilities gained admission to universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

Beneficiaries include candidates with visual impairments, autism, Down syndrome, and albinism. He emphasized that candidates with disabilities can excel academically when provided with adequate support.

The event also featured discussions on the deployment of artificial intelligence to strengthen inclusivity in higher education in Nigeria and marked the unveiling of two books on the future of higher education in the country.
