JAMB Records 4,216 Admissions for Disabled Candidates

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has recorded 4,216 admissions for candidates with disabilities over the past ten years through its Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG). This information was disclosed by Emeritus Professor Peter Okebukola during a stakeholder engagement on inclusivity in higher education held at the National Universities Commission (NUC) headquarters in Abuja.

The JEOG, established under the leadership of outgoing JAMB Registrar Professor Haq Oloyed, aims to promote equal access to tertiary education for candidates with disabilities. On average, 53 percent of participating candidates with disabilities gain admission into universities, polytechnics, and colleges each year.

Beneficiaries include candidates with visual impairments, autism, Down syndrome, and albinism. Okebukola emphasized that the program maintains academic standards and does not compromise examination integrity.

He also noted that candidates with disabilities have excelled in competitive fields, demonstrating that disabilities do not hinder academic success when supported adequately.
