Veritas University Adopts Ethical AI Governance Framework

Veritas University in Abuja has announced its commitment to an ethical AI governance framework by signing the "Magnifica Humanita" compact, aimed at ensuring that AI development and deployment prioritize human dignity and the common good. The signing took place during the 154th Senate meeting of the university, where Vice Chancellor Prof.

Hyacinth Ichoku represented the institution. The compact is a direct response to a call from Pope Leo XIV, emphasizing the moral and social implications of technology.

The initiative includes commitments to seven core principles, such as reviewing academic programs to ensure holistic human development in the AI era and promoting justice and peace through technology. The event featured notable signatories, including Prof.

Emeka Aniagolu and Dr. Sam Amadi, and aims to extend participation to a wider network of educational institutions and civil society organizations across Africa.

This initiative reflects a growing global concern for ethical governance in emerging technologies.
