Kwankwaso Warns Northern Governors on 2027 Campaigns

Rabiu Kwankwaso, the Vice Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress, warned that having over 30 governors does not guarantee electoral victory in the 2027 general elections. Speaking at the NDC Town Hall Meeting in Rivers State, Kwankwaso noted that many northern governors have performed poorly, making it difficult for them to campaign for their parties.

He referenced past elections where incumbents lost despite controlling several states, cautioning against overconfidence based on the number of governors. Kwankwaso criticized the management of public funds, stating that despite significant revenue increases, the benefits have not reached the populace.

He recalled that in 1999, states received about N4 billion each, while recent revenues exceeded N1.11 trillion in one year, yet the impact on citizens has been minimal. He expressed concern over rising public anger and insecurity in Northern Nigeria, emphasizing that these issues could affect the political landscape in the upcoming elections.
