Kwankwaso: Northern Governors Face Campaign Challenges

Rabi’u Kwankwaso, the vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), expressed concerns on Thursday during a town hall meeting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, regarding the ability of many Northern governors to campaign for the upcoming 2027 elections. He attributed their potential difficulties to what he termed their poor performance in office, which has resulted in widespread public dissatisfaction and insecurity.

Kwankwaso cautioned the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) against complacency, stating that it would be a significant error to assume they cannot lose the election simply due to having over 30 governors. He referenced historical precedents, noting that a sitting president has previously lost an election.

Furthermore, Kwankwaso criticized the management of public funds by both state governors and the Federal Government, highlighting that the country has received significantly higher revenues than in previous years. He recalled that when he served as governor in 1999, states and local governments received approximately N4 billion each.
