Kwankwaso Warns APC: 30 Governors Not a Guarantee for 2027

Rabiu Kwankwaso, the vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and former governor of Kano State, warned the All Progressives Congress (APC) that having control over more than 30 states does not ensure electoral victory in the 2027 elections. Speaking at an NDC Town Hall Meeting in Rivers State on Thursday, Kwankwaso highlighted that some Northern governors may find it challenging to campaign for President Bola Tinubu due to public dissatisfaction with their performance.

He referenced past elections to illustrate that incumbents can lose despite strong political control. Kwankwaso also criticized how governments have utilized increased revenue, noting that higher allocations have not improved living conditions for Nigerians.

He pointed out that when he became governor in 1999, state and local governments received significantly less funding. He expressed concern over the growing gap between government revenue and the worsening living conditions, particularly in Northern Nigeria, where insecurity remains a pressing issue.
