Obi Urges Nigerians to Protect Votes for Fair Elections

Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State and a politician from the Democratic Congress, addressed the issue of electoral integrity in Nigeria during a recent visit to Washington D.C. He asserted that elections are often rigged because Nigerians allow it to happen, stressing that citizens must take ownership of the electoral process to protect their votes.

Obi urged voters to remain at polling units to cast their ballots and monitor the counting process rather than leaving immediately after voting. He highlighted that many Nigerians do not understand the importance of staying to ensure their votes are counted, often opting to leave for night vigils instead.

Obi identified poor leadership as Nigeria's biggest challenge, despite the country's abundant human and natural resources. He called for active citizen participation in defending their votes and demanding accountability from leaders, insisting that good leadership is essential for addressing Nigeria's problems.
