Man Digs Up Sister's Skeleton to Access Bank Account

In a shocking incident in Malipasi, Keonjhar District, Odisha, Jitu Munda exhumed his late sister Kalara Munda's skeleton to provide proof of her death in order to access her bank account. On January 26, Munda approached the Maliposi branch of Odisha Grameen Bank to withdraw ₹20,000 from his sister's account.

However, bank officials requested documentation to process the claim. Munda, who has no formal education and little understanding of banking procedures, repeatedly visited the bank but was unsuccessful.

Frustrated, he dug up his sister's remains to present as proof of her death. The situation drew the attention of local police, who intervened after being alerted by bank officials.

Kiran Prasad Sahu, a police officer, highlighted the communication gap between Munda, an illiterate tribal man, and the bank's requirements for legal heir documentation. Local authorities are now working to help Munda secure the necessary legal documents to access the funds.
