Lagos State Arrests 45 Beggars in Enforcement Operation

On May 25, the Lagos State Government conducted enforcement operations that resulted in the arrest of 45 beggars, which included nine children and 14 adults. The operations took place in the Oshodi and Agege areas, as disclosed by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab.

The enforcement team apprehended 22 beggars in Oshodi and Agege, comprising mostly adults and a few teenagers. This operation is part of a larger initiative by the Lagos State Government to intensify environmental enforcement, which has led to a total of 10,634 arrests across the state in a single year.

According to Wahab, this includes 5,715 individuals arrested for illegal highway activities, 3,886 for other offenses such as street trading and environmental pollution, and 931 individuals apprehended for waste management-related offenses.
