Wike Critiques Obi's Political Style as Opportunistic

Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Governor of Rivers State, criticized Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, during an interview on Arise TV. Wike described Obi's political style as opportunistic, lacking the resilience necessary for true national leadership.

He claimed that Obi's emergence as a candidate for the National Democratic Congress in the 2027 elections reflects a tendency to flee from political struggles, preferring positions that offer easy victories. Wike drew a comparison between Obi's political movement and his own commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), despite facing internal friction.

He stated that leadership requires the courage to face challenges and make long-term decisions, rather than avoiding problems. Wike also praised President Bola Tinubu for his executive spine in enforcing reforms, particularly the removal of petrol subsidies, which he described as a "cancer" that all governments have identified but failed to address effectively.
