Abuja Police Arrest Kidnapping Syndicate, Recover N8.8m

The FCT Police Command arrested members of a kidnapping syndicate involved in "one chance" robberies, recovering N8.8 million ransom allegedly collected from a female victim abducted in Abuja. The operation was disclosed during a briefing by Police Commissioner Ahm Sanusi on Wednesday.

The police tracked the gang after receiving a distress call from the victim's family, deploying a tracking unit to monitor communications. The gang reportedly targeted women, as they were less likely to resist during abductions.

Josephine Adeh, the command's public relations officer, stated that the gang had previously extorted varying sums from other victims, with amounts ranging from N500,000 to N8.8 million. Two vehicles used in the operations and mobile phones believed to be stolen from victims were also recovered.

The suspects will face charges in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
