UNN Security Personnel Assault Student Over Restricted Route

A video circulating on social media depicts security personnel at the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, physically assaulting a student who allegedly trespassed on a restricted route. The footage shows the student in visible distress, pleading with the security officers, who were reportedly enforcing campus rules.

The incident occurred near the campus gate, where the student was apprehended and forcefully restrained. Preliminary findings suggest the student fled from unidentified individuals who allegedly threatened him with a stone, prompting the security personnel to pursue him.

Following the incident, the student submitted a formal letter of apology for his actions. However, the forceful nature of the arrest has drawn significant backlash online, with users condemning the conduct of the security personnel.

Adam Okori, the Chief Staff of the Student Union Government, defended the actions of the security personnel, citing recent security concerns on campus, including thefts by individuals posing as students.
